About Us

Electoral Calculus is a pollster and political consultancy specialising in quantitative analysis and modelling for electoral and other market research projects. It was founded by Martin Baxter, its CEO.

A well-known public side of the company is its website (www.electoralcalculus.co.uk) which provides analysis, comment and predictions of general elections, polls and democracy.

Political quantitative analysis can give a unique insight into elections at national and local level. Tools available include result prediction, estimation of likely results under client-chosen scenarios, analysis of the link between national and local results, and real-time election result analysis. Additionally the tools developed can also be used in non-political market research contexts to extrapolate national market research results down to fine-detail local geographical levels.

Electoral Calculus has built a reputation over the years as a trusted provider of electoral facts, data and predictions. It has pioneered new electoral models and user-defined predictions, as well as giving individual constituency drilldown to ward level. It is regularly cited in the national press, and is consulted by MPs, candidates and opinion formers.

Electoral Calculus is a member of the British Polling Council and abides by its rules.

Martin Baxter is a renowned expert in algorithms, models and data. With twenty years experience in politics, finance, industry and academia, he has an exceptional record of creating and delivering quantitative projects which make a real difference. He focuses on bringing together the creative, theoretical and practical aspects to deliver high-quality solutions at low cost. Problems can include anything in the quantitative or algorithmic area, particularly data analysis, forecasting, data-based decision algorithms, and data visualization.

Additionally, he utilises his communication skills, both presentational and written, to communicate technical topics clearly to both general and specialist audiences, and to build consensus for change within and between organisations.
